veski board farewells Barlow and welcomes Smith
The veski board of directors and veski chief executive officer, Ms Julia L Page, pay tribute to retiring veski chair Professor Snow Barlow and announce the appointment of current veski board member and Monash University’s Vice-Provost (Research and Research Infrastructure) Professor Ian Smith as the new chair.
Farewell from Professor Snow Barlow
It has been an honour to serve Victoria and Australia’s innovation communities as chair of veski over the past eight years.
In that time, we have attracted 18 outstanding global leaders to Victoria as veski innovation fellows delivering activities across a wide variety of fields from biomedical research, cancer epigenetics and inflammatory diseases to bionanotechnology, aeronautical and solar engineering to sustainable agriculture.
I am also extremely proud of the board’s work to date to support and embrace greater collaboration between industry and academia.
My sincere thanks to the board, the management team, led by Ms Julia L Page, and the many individuals and organisations who have supported veski during my time as chair. Without their support we would have been unable to inspire the thousands of scientists, researchers, teachers and students who have been involved with our programs.
Welcome from Professor Ian Smith
Victoria continues to make an impressive impact on the country’s innovative capabilities, and veski continues to play a central role in this endeavour.
I thank Snow for his leadership over the past eight years, and also acknowledge the strong foundation he has developed with the support of our current and past board members. He has ensured the organisation has a firm base for the next decade of inspiring innovation.
We now look to veski: new horizons and our organisation’s continued efforts to inspire innovation across the state and across the country. Working closely with our partners, we will continue to encourage and foster stronger links between industry and academia, and further support our future leaders by delivering a program of skills, training and education for the new generation of scientists, researchers and industry leaders. At the same time, veski will continue to lead by example in delivering its inspiring women program.
