STEM sidebyside program – application guide
The inclusive veski inspiring women STEM sidebyside program in 2023 is a leadership program that supports women wanting to progress or extend their leadership positions within a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering & Mathematics) industry.
The program in 2023 is exclusively for a cohort of competitively selected mid-career women from across Academia, Industry, Government and the Not for Profit sector, aspiring to secure a senior leadership position.
Evaluation
Applications to join the program are sought from individuals who identify as a mid-career woman or non-binary in STEM and are looking to further advance their leadership position in Australia within Academia, Industry, Government, or the Not for Profit sector and who:
- are passionate and have a deep commitment in advocating for an inclusive STEM environment;
- want to directly impact cultural change within their organisations / institutions;
- are seeking the skills & mindset to further enhance and develop their leadership capabilities; and
- want to build confidence to take the next step in their career.
Eligibility
The inclusive veski inspiring women STEM sidebyside program in 2023 provides equitable opportunities for individuals who:
- identify as a woman or as non-binary (updated 25 May 2023);
- are a full-time or a part-time [at least 0.6 FTE] employee in a STEM sector at the closing date for applications (5.00pm on Monday, 12 June 2023);
- work within Academia, Industry, Government, or the Not for Profit sector and if employed in…
- Academia – … have at least 10 years of Full-Time Equivalent (FTE) post-PhD with demonstrated leadership experience in STEM fields;
OR - Industry, Government, or the Not for Profit sector – … have at least 8 years of Full-Time Equivalent (FTE) post-primary degree with 5 or more years of general management experience (i.e. business unit, line or function management incorporating knowledge of P&L management, strategic planning and people leadership) in STEM fields;
- Academia – … have at least 10 years of Full-Time Equivalent (FTE) post-PhD with demonstrated leadership experience in STEM fields;
- have Australian citizenship or permanent residency; and
- have ensured a financial co-contribution of $1500 +GST will be provided by their current employer should their application be successful.

Scholarships
This year, the veski foundation is offering one or more scholarships to access financial assistance to participate in the inclusive veski inspiring women STEM sidebyside program in 2023.
Those who face systemic barriers to success or other worthy applicants (as determined by the review panel) may be considered for a financial scholarship to support their participation in the program.
The scholarship (of up to $1,500) can provide financial assistance to either join the program and/or assist with travel & accommodation costs.
Selection
Applications will be screened for eligibility by veski. All eligible and competitive applications for the veski inspiring women STEM sidebyside program in 2023 will be considered by the selection panel.
The veski selection panel will, with absolute discretion, select recipients for the program on the basis of the key criteria. The panel’s recommendations will be submitted to the veski board of directors for endorsement.
The recommendations of the selection panel are final, and appeals will not be considered. Feedback on unsuccessful applications will not be provided by either the panel or veski.

Application requirements
Complete a full application demonstrating:
- your career highlights with an emphasis on your leadership achievements and impact;
- your career goals and ambitions;
- how you advocate for an inclusive and equitable STEM workforce;
- how being selected for the program in 2023 will support you in achieving your career objectives?
Supporting documents
- provide proof of Australian citizenship or permanent residency;
- provide a 2-page current curriculum vitae demonstrating the nature of your achievements;
- provide a 100-word brief biography for use in promotion related to the program; and
- provide a professional headshot in JPEG format: quality must be at least of 300 DPI/ 1MB.

As a competitively selected participant, you can expect:
- A dynamic program of up to 10 workshops, masterclasses and networking opportunities – designed to provide you with the skills, networks and mindset to help achieve your career goals;
- Access to qualified facilitators who are leaders in their field to share frameworks and strategies to assist you become an effective leader; and
- Access to past participants of the program and key stakeholders across Academia, Industry, Government and the Not for Profit sector willing to share their expertise and insights of leadership.
Successful applicants are required to attend all program activities. Information regarding sessions of the veski inspiring women STEM sidebyside program in 2023 will be published prior to candidates being advised of the outcome of their application.
