Another term of inspiring students and teachers

As students and teachers from across Victoria head back to school, veski is ready for another term of inspiring students (& teachers) activities.
Already in 2013 the students and teachers have participated in a number of unique activities including lab visits, speed dates, science presentations and conferences.
Most recently, the students participated in a unique ‘speed meet the scientist’ event before the official announcement of the 2013 Victoria Prize and 2013 Victoria Fellowships. As part of veski’s inspiring students (& teachers) program, each student had the opportunity to ask the leading researchers questions about their career, their research and the challenges they face.
More than 40 students and their teachers travelled to Queen's Hall for the event and were then welcomed as special guests for the evening's announcements. The students were also joined by ABC Radio National presenter Mr Robyn Williams and Victorian Government Lead Scientist Ms Leonie Walsh.
In August, students from Kyneton Secondary College joined veski at the sold-out 'Evening of Scientific Phenomena' and heard about the world of science from Professor Brian Cox OBE.
In July, two science teachers involved in the program attended the 2013 Conference of the Australian Science Teachers Association (CONASTA), and according to Paul Waldron from Kyneton “the atmosphere was full of firing neurons”. veski also joined Australian Academy of Science Fellows, teachers, policy makers and early career researchers at the annual Science at the Shine Dome conference in Canberra.
This term, one teacher accepted an invitation from veski innovation fellow Dr Ross Dickins and brought a group of students to Dr Dickin’s laboratory at WEHI for a behind the scenes tour and discussion.
Rounding out the term, veski has been developing a range of online resources to be piloted in coming terms. These resources include videos, classroom activities and other support materials drawing on the experience of our veski innovation fellows.
